Tuesday July 26th - recap

Another Twitter Twuesday morning has come and gone.

Historically, it's a pretty active day as the following moments in history took place on July 26th:
Alexander Graham Bell first described his idea for the telephone to his father in Brantford, ON
Winston Churchill Resigned as Britain's PM
Apollo 15 launched with the first lunar rover (moon buggy)
Napster was court ordered to cease trade in music.

Our Impossible Trivia did not stump Nanditta Colbear who correctly answered "retire" to the question "According to a new study, married men should never do this before their wife. What is it?" - she won a Pogo Combo from RIV Chip Stand for her answer.

We got another qualifier for the 2 pairs of daypasses to the CMT Music Festival at the end of August. Luc Perreault correctly identified the first Countrified pop song of the day as "Owner of A Lonely Heart".

We wished Riley Furlong a happy 14th birthday. He shares his birthday with Mick Jagger, Helen Mirren, Sandra Bullock, Kate Beckinsale and Derek Jeter. Not bad company.

Monday July 4th - recap

This morning we started by wishing all of our American visitors a happy Independence Day. We delved into some American history to find out a few interesting things:

Since World War II, every American president to address the Canadian House of Commons in their first term of office have all been reelected to a second term. Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, and Clinton have all had the honor, while Kennedy, Johnson, Ford, Carter, and Bush number 1 did not address the parliament.

The Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper.

Only two people, John Hancock and Charles Thomson signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Most of the rest signed on August 2, but the last signature wasn't added until five years later.

Jimmy Carter was the first president born in a hospital.
Andrew Jackson was the only US President to believe that the world is flat.
and finally and most interesting...

The United States has never lost a war in which mules were used.

1 Grand prize winner this morning as Carol Anne Legault correctly identified all 5 "countryfied" songs in our montage to win herself a pair of weekend passes (including camping) to the CMT Music Festival happening at the end of August in Burle's Creek (just North of Barrie).
click here for festival details -
note: special thank you to Jeanette Laurin who was on hold as our standby caller if Carol didn't get them all correct.

how many of these songs could you identify?

Congratulations also to Lynne Gaudreault who correctly answered our Morning Trivia question from our friends at "Literacy Alliance of West Nipissing". Her name goes into the monthly draw of a $25.00 gift card from Giant Tiger.

Box office numbers for the weekend looked like this:
1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon — $97.4 mil
2. Cars 2 — $25.1 mil
3. Bad Teacher — $14.1 mil

Facebook will be launching Skype video chat later this week. Calling the launch "something awesome," CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted that this new integration would be added to Facebook chat.
It's not clear whether or not you will need to download the Skype program itself.

And finally we continue to watch Will and Kate - the royals will compete against each other in PEI today.

Have a great Monday.
