A bit of disappointing weather but by having it now we will have a gloriously sunny Canada Day.

Charlie Lang was by to discuss the new Giant Tiger Nevada fundraiser for the West Nipissing General Hospital as well as an update for the Step Dance and Fiddle Festival.

Monday June 27th - recap

This morning we started preparing you for the Canada Day long weekend by updating the look of our blog sites in patriotic colours as well as letting you know about local activites happening on Canada Day.

These include Canada Day celebrations at the Sturgeon River House Museum and at the North Bay Waterfront. Click here for more details

1 Winner this morning as Darlene St-George was the monthly winner of the Literacy Alliance of West Nipissing trivia challenge. She won herself a $25 gift card from the New Sturgeon Builders' Supplies/Home Hardware. Thanks to Nanditta Colbear from the Alliance for helping us out with the draw this morning.

We also started a new contest that could send you and a friend to the CMT Music Festival in Burl's Creek (just North of Barrie)

Friday June 24th - recap

St-Jean Baptiste Day in Canada celebrating the birthday of the patron saint of French Canadians, St-John the baptist.

We spent the morning exploring the history of this day in Canada and beyond.

Wednesday June 22nd - recap

The first full day of Summer 2011 was a bit disappointing weather-wise. Light rain expected for the next few days with highs around 20.
Gas prices jumped almost 10 cents overnight - we pondered the relationship of gas price hikes in close relation to long weekends.

In 1847 - the doughnut was created - a good Canadian has to talk about that :).

Charlie Lang was by to discuss the ATV fundraiser for a digital mamography unit for the West Nipissing General Hospital as well as an update for the Step Dance and Fiddle Festival.

Twitter Twuesday and today was all about the first day of Summer, the Summer Solstice (well that and finding a darn envelope I lost yesterday - thank you Marcel Bergeron for tracking that down for me - huge relief).

This morning was all about GAME 7 of the Stanley Cup Championship series between the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks.

I spent the night tweeting commentary during the game which resulted in Boston being crowned the newest Stanley Cup Champions after defeating Vancouver on their own ice 4-0.

The West Nipissing Relay for Life was a huge success this past Friday with 18 teams and $82000.00 dollars raised in West Nipissing. Congratulations to organizers, participants and everyone who supported this wonderful cause. Selena Gomez was hospitalized following an appearance on the Tonight Show. No details available yet.

The Stanley Cup final series is now tied at 2 games apiece. Game 5 from Vancouver goes tonight at 8 pm on CBC/RDS

This morning was all about West Nipissing's Relay For Life starting tonight at 7pm at Goulard Park. Come support the fight against cancer and have some fun as well.

Thursday June 9th - recap

The Canucks blew an opportunity to get within 1 win of a Stanley Cup by letting Boston back into the series with a 4-0 victory. The series is now tied at 2 games apiece. Game 5 from Vancouver goes Friday night at 8 pm on CBC/RDS

This morning we paid tribute to Angus Walters, the original schooner captain for Canada's Bluenose...he raced her for 18 years and went undefeated. He was born June 9th 1882 in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia. Electric Guitar inventor Les Paul was also born on this date, in 1915. Google.ca had a guitar on their world famous search engine in honour of the man.

Shania Twain is enjoying her return to the public life and we will be able to enjoy it even more as she's signed on to a two-year gig at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. All the hits will be performed, and it's called 'Shania: Still The One!'. The shows will start December 1st, 2012

Wednesday June 8th - recap

The Canucks got soundly beaten by the Bruins by a score of 8-1 on Monday but hope to come back and grab a strangle hold on their Stanley Cup final series. Game 4 from Boston is on tonight at 8 pm on CBC/RDS

This morning we learned about someone who is really committed to her friends. susyj87 is her name on youtube and she has video of her newly tattooed arm. Newly tattooed with the profile picture of each of her 156 Facebook friends. See the video here


Still Facebook related, a cautionary tale for teens and their parents. A German teenager mistakenly forgot to make a Facebook invitation to her 16th birthday party "private" and as a result she received 15000 confirmations of attendance. Once the parents found out, they made her send a cancellation notice yet still 1500 people showed up.

Two American high school students are being prevented from attending their own graduation after staging a prank Star Wars light saber fight in their high school cafeteria.

Speaking of graduations, tis the season. Here is a commencement address by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling from 2008 at Harvard. Interesting and insightful into her life and advice for all.

Tuesday June 7th - recap

The Canucks got soundly beaten by the Bruins last night by a score of 8-1. They now lead Boston 2 games to 1 in their best of 7 Stanley Cup final series. Game 4 from Boston is scheduled for Wednesday 8 pm on CBC/RDS

Monday June 6th - recap

The Canucks look to take a strangle-hold on the Stanley Cup finals against Boston tonight at 8. Vancouver leads the best of 7 series, 2 games to 0.

No winners today but you'll all get a chance to win prizes tomorrow with another "Name That Out of Tune" where I play a song on the guitar with my "limited" skills. You call in and identify it and you win a McDonald's Summer Prize Pack courtesy of our friends at Sturgeon Falls McDonald's who invite you to get a bigger bang for your buck all Summer with "Dollar Drink Days".

Literacy Alliance of West Nipissing has come on board for the morning show with a special Monday Trivia contest. They've provided us with specific questions and 3 possible answers. You win simply by participating. Names go into a draw that will be done on the last Monday of each month.

Today's trivia question was: What is an "acute" angle?

Friday June 3rd - recap

We discovered many bacon flavoured products today including "Bacon Gravy" and "MMMMvelopes". These are but a few of the products available from JDfoods.net They have a fun website, check it out here.

Today is the 22nd anniversary of the official opening of "Skydome". On the first day they opened the retractable roof...it was raining. 50000 wet fans.

Gemini Astronaut Ed White became the first American to walk in space on this day in 1965. Here's a photo of him outside his Gemini IV spacecraft with Earth in the background.


New at the theaters today though… X-Men: First Class which charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr became Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time

Thursday June 2nd - recap

The Canucks took a 1-0 lead in their Stanley Cup
final series against the Bruins by defeating Boston
last night 1-0 - Game 2 is set for 8pm Saturday

This morning we found out that local hockey hero
Pete Palangio's name is on the Stanley Cup twice -
even though he only won it once. It's because they
originally misspelled his name as Pete Palagio. To
correct the mistake, they left the error and added
the correction.

Wednesday June 1st - Recap

Tim Hortons Camp Day today, spoke with Anne Lanteigne owner of Sturgeon Falls Tim Hortons who chatted about the wonderful things Camp Day can do when they send a kid to camp. Details about Camp Day can be found here

We had a few winners this morning, including Jeanette Laurin who won the first of many McDonald's Summer Prize Packs - Get a Bigger Bang For your Buck with McDonald's Dollar Drink Days all Summer long.

Norman Brule won himself a catered breakfast party courtesy of Subway Restaurants for correctly identifying Tie Domi as the Leaf tough guy who was also a former Winnipeg Jets player.

Speaking of the Jets, it was confirmed today that the Atlanta Thrashers have been sold to a group that will relocate it to Winnipeg. Whether they will become the Jets again or adopt a new name is still unknown.

Shania Twain is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame tomorrow - how is it possible she didn't already have one???

Charlie Lang was by to talk West Nipissing Stepdance and Fiddle Festival on What's Happening in West Nipissing - brought to you by Page and Associates Realty Brokerage...selling West Nipissing one house at a time.
