Sunday November 13th, 2011 - Recap of the week

Monday we speculated on whether or not Duchess Kate Middleton might be pregnant with her aversion to peanut paste at a recent function in Denmark. We talked of the Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks winning their 5th straight with a 6-4 win over the Mattawa Voyageurs.

We learned that Justin Bieber will take a parternity test to prove he is not the father of Mariah Yeater's baby and that his lawyers are preparing a countersuit against Yeater.

Puss'n'Boots continued its run as number 1 at the box office beating out new movies "Tower Heist" and "A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas"

Finally we spoke with Marcel Bougie and Rock Lachance about "Pat 2012 - Patriots in the Third World" a missionary trip to be made by students of Franco Cite as well as adult residents of West Nipissing.

Tuesday we found out about the big news of the week. Dr. Conrad Murray has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of pop icon Michael Jackson. Murray faces up to four years in prison.

The other big news of the week: Lindsay Lohan is done with her latest jail stint. TMZ.com reported that Lindsay checked in to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, CA on Sunday night at 8:48 PM PST to begin serving her 30-day sentence. She was released at approximately 1:30 AM

In Wednesday entertainment news...Kelly Ripa, talk show host and super-mom, has just signed on for 5 more years of Live!!
Even though Regis is leaving next week, they still have Ripa through at least 2017! Which means by that time she'll actually have been on the show for 16 years!
Still no news as to who will be replacing Regis yet.
Charlie Lang was by with an update on the West Nipissing Parade of Lights and to thank many generous businesses in the Community who are helping to make this event along with the grand opening of Minnehaha Bay, the best in Northern Ontario.

Thursday we found out that Eddy Murphy has decided not to host the Oscars anymore...Billy Crystal will replace him with Brian Grazer accepting production responsibilities.

And Friday was Remembrance Day and along with the special Remembrance Day Broadcast on Moose FM, we spoke with Legion President Steve Hopkins and his first Vice Richard Colombe about the legion and its many wonderful year round services.

Congratulations to all of our winners from this past week, especially Josee St-Jean who won our special `Dinner and a Show - Laurence Jalbert` promotion - a pair of tickets to the concert as well as a dinner for two from Gervais Restaurant.

See you next week.

Saturday November 5th, 2011 - Recap of the week

My new responsibilities have been keeping me very busy and I've missed the daily recaps but have decided that a weekly recap combined with the occasional "other" blog will be a better way of staying in touch.
We started the week with a bunch of fun with a Halloween themed morning including our Double Speed Classic which was the classic Michael Jackson Song "Thriller"

We talked about the ancipation for the "Safe Halloween" festivities that night.
Tuesday we recapped the Safe Halloween and showcased over 50 pictures of the almost 1400 "trick or treaters" who passed through the doors of the Sturgeon Falls Recreation Complex.
We continued to encourage people to vote for the "West Nipissing Organic Community Initiative" in hopes of securing the funding from the "Aviva Community Fund". Click here to place your vote.
The big news of the morning on Wednesday came with Charlie Lang's weekly visit to let us know "What's Happening in West Nipissing". Already having gotten us excited for the West Nipissing Parade of Lights and the bonfire at the opening of the Minnehaha Bay complex following the parade, Charlie divulged that they've secured a reported 90 minute fireworks extravaganza at Minnehaha Bay. This all happens on Friday Dec 2nd.
Thursday we found out that papers have been filed accusing Justin Bieber of being the father of a child born to a woman who claims to have had sex with him after a show when he was sixteen.
We also had a chance to check in with Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks Coach and GM Lui Ricci who reflected on the month of October and the Jacks' 9-1 record.
Friday, Monique Hellawell from Pet Valu popped by for a discussion on winter pet safety, health as well as suggestions for Christmas treats and gifts for pets.
Two new movies opening up tonight in the area. The action/comedy "Tower Heist" with Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Matthew Broderick as well as the first Christmas movie out this year "A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas" in 3D. Watch the trailers below.

A special congratulations to the first ever Moose Natural Hat Trick (three wins three days in a row) Ken Landry. Here he is posing with his first prize of the three.

Have a wonderful week and don't forget to wear a poppy in honour of our veterans.

Monday July 25th - recap

This morning we started off the last week of July by making our monthly trivia draw for the Literacy Alliance of West Nipissing - a $25 gift certificate from Giant Tiger was won by Lynne Gaudreau.

Congratulations to local "Jeux de le Francophonie" participants Charlotte Perron and Amanda Lapshinoff who both broke the top 3 at the games which were held in Sudbury last weekend.

In entertainment news, we learned of the sad passing of singer Amy Winehouse over the weekend. Here she is performing when at the top of her game. A unique talent gone too soon.

Kim Trahan was our first qualifier for 1 of 2 pairs of day passes to the CMT Music Festival at Burl's Creek Park this August 26-28th. She correctly identified our "Countrified" song of the day as Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl".

Box office numbers for the weekend looked like this:
1. Captain America: The First Avenger - $65.8 million
2. Harry Potter - The Deathly Hallows Part 2 — $48.1 million
3. Friends With Benefits — $18.5 million

FYI: My peace lilies have made it one full week in my studio.

Enjoy your Monday

Congratulations to Carol Ann Legault who was able to identify at least 1 of our three music clips in our "Name That Tune Out of Three" contest.

Our Moose Impossible Trivia question was another stumper: People who have one of these are 40% less likely to die of a heart attack... what is it? - correct answer "cats"

Two new movies opening this weekend; Friends With Benefits and Captain America: The First Avenger

Thursday July 21st - recap

An extreme heat advisory continues in the area - today's high of 32 C will feel like 40 C. At 6 am it was already 24 degrees in West Nipissing.

It was on this date back in 1990 that Roger Waters staged a production of "The Wall" in Germany less than a year after The "actual" Wall separating east and west Germany came down. Sinead O'Connor, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins and Cyndi Lauper among others took part in the benefit.
Today in 1999 - The missing plane of John F. Kennedy Jr. was found off of the coast of Martha's Vineyard, MA. The bodies of Kennedy, his wife Carolyn Bessette and her sister Lauren Bessette were found on board. The plane had crashed on July 16, 1999.
Today in 2007 – The saga’s end began as The seventh and last book of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," was released.

This morning’s impossible trivia question this:
79% of adults have not been to one of these in over 10 years.... what is it?
answer: the library

Shout out to team "Hike-Her's" which is made up of Janette Piquette, Colette Prevost, Jennifer Wilson and Ginette Demers…they have taken up the OXFAM CHallenge
Together, with the support of family, friends and some strangers, they have reached in fact, surpassed their fundraising goal of $5000.00 which will go to tackle the root causes of poverty, inequity and help people to create self-reliant and sustainable communities in developing countries around the world.

The fundraising is over, now all that’s left is the 100 km Hike – yikessss….The challenge is to hike 100km in 48 hours as a team of 4.
